Base jugable

A native Xbox 360 to PC port through static recompilation with RexGlue / GWRECOMP. This page covers the stable pre-DXR snapshot: gameplay and post-processing work are preserved while the experimental ray-tracing trees remain separate.
This is the primary validation target for the current build. The port, post-processing and launcher are prepared around this scenario.
This release has not gone through general laptop validation yet. We are not publishing a portable performance or compatibility guarantee.
A dedicated profile exists. The ROV path favors visual correctness, but UHD-class integrated graphics can run very slowly.
DXR work remains on a separate branch and is not included in this stable snapshot.
default.xex. Users must provide their own compatible copy. Installation is built locally from those files. These are the changes that belong to the current base and are being published as the project status.
Native mouse camera and aiming, sensitivity and Y inversion, input carrier and optional auto-aim disable. In-game remapping now uses one unified runtime/user profile.
The launcher can keep the original 30 Hz behavior or use the port's 60 Hz patch. The stable base keeps the CountInterval change without merging the DXR branch.
Host post-processing adds darker wet surfaces, puddle/reflection approximations and lens dirt without adding geometry or requiring ray tracing.
Half-resolution Gaussian bloom is available but disabled by default because some street lights haloed too strongly. ZPD/occlusion work also reduces lighting flicker.
The port-specific launcher is built with WPF on .NET 8, and its self-contained package is designed not to require separate .NET or VC++ installation.
extract-xiso to prepare the local install. This is a preview. “Works” does not mean every GPU, driver and laptop combination has been validated.
This is the current target and the main environment used to validate the experience. Lens dirt, wetness, input and 30/60 Hz modes are part of the current flow.
The profile exists to avoid issues seen on the RTV path on some integrated graphics. ROV can correct the image, but pixel-shader blending may dramatically reduce performance. It remains experimental.
Laptops are not considered tested yet. Before claiming portable compatibility we want to validate mobile dedicated GPUs, modern iGPUs, drivers and sustained thermal/performance behavior.
A vendor graphics driver is required. Microsoft Basic Display may fall back to software/WARP paths and does not represent real hardware performance.
The GameWave kit does not contain the commercial game data.
Select your compatible Xbox 360 ISO of The Darkness or a folder you have already extracted from your own copy.
It extracts and organizes local files, places the required configuration and keeps game data outside any public GameWave package.
The real executable is the_darkness.exe. the_darkness_recomp is the codegen step, not the game executable users should launch.
A public summary of the milestones that lead into this upload.
Static recompilation running on PC, lighting/texture recovery and native-input work.
The timing patch enabling 60 Hz is integrated while preserving a 30 Hz option.
Wetness, lens dirt, optional bloom, ZPD/occlusion fixes, ISO installation and self-contained packaging.
This project page is published with Launcher 1.1.14 while DXR remains outside the stable build during continued optimization.
The next update will focus on optimization and compatibility: lowering iGPU cost, starting real laptop validation, continuing to automate the build/error loop, and keeping DXR separate until it is stable enough to merge.
